This thought came to me, if I have the number 0.999… and it will go on infinitely, will it be equal to 1 or will be very close to 1 but not equal 1. There are a few proofs on the internet and here is the way I’ve proved it.
So after examining the number 0.999…, I found out I can actually rewrite it in an infinite series form 0.9 + 0.09 + 0.009 + 0.0009 + … Or:
We know that the first term 0.9 can already be written as 1 – 0.1, the second term which is 0.09 can be written as 0.1 – 0.01, the third term which is 0.009 can be written as 0.01 – 0.001, and so on and so for. So now rewriting the the whole series again, we’ll get (1 – 0.1) + (0.1 – 0.01) + (0.001 – 0.0001) + (0.0001 + 0.00001) + … What I’ve found out is that the terms cancel out each other, like in the first term 0.1 got canceled out by the second term, the 0.01 in the second term got canceled out by the term term and if these goes on infinitely all the terms will be canceled out eventually leaving 1 behind. So I’ve proved that 0.999… is equal to 1.

I would like to announce that Edelweiss Pirates have officially changed to Edelweiss Idealogies. The big reason why we decided to change is that Blogger failed on us. There’s some problems with it which caused us to have difficulties with the editing and uploading of images (as seen in the picture above). I guess there’s some problems with the server of Blogger. So we’ve decided to use WordPress instead. We are still young on WordPress and there are many thing we haven’t understand about the mechanism of WordPress, please give us some time. So this will be our official site.
